Despite Motorola’s current state of flux regarding their acquisition by Lenovo, there are plenty of products in the pipeline.  At the press event this evening, Rick Osterloh made a couple of interesting statements.  The first is the position of wearables, and that Motorola is in the process of developing a smartwatch.  The focus for the watch will be making it stylish – their current issue with current devices is the lack of style and finding a device that people actually want to wear.  Motorola will try and fix this.

Also, for the briefest of moments, the panel was asked regarding the next version of the Moto X.  The answer was simply ‘sometime in the summer’.

That's going to be rough for moto. Sony, Samsung, and HTC will have already released their new flagships and the new nexus will be right around the corner.

Not really. All the other phone manufacturers are doing the exact same thing, update the hardware yearly, while adding little gimmics to bolster the standard experience. Moto was the only real company to innovate with their notifications system and touchless controls. The only problem moto has is advertisement. Everyone and their mom thinks iphones and galaxies are the best phones out there.

While that is all true. Moto was slow in pricing their products right. They started up higher than they should be like the Moto X but the Moto G corrects that. More reasonably priced products in the mid-range and slightly lower because the market there is huge!. LEnovo has the distribution channels to handle it.

Moto on Twitter , while blogging the event, said "late summer" for new Moto X. Since Moto X launched in late August , the timing is not surprising.

Glad to hear there's a new X on the way. After trying the LG2, the Galaxy 4, and HTC One, I found the Moto X to be as fast, far more convenient, and with a better form factor (for me, anyway. YMMV). I've even come to prefer it to my iPhone 5s, especially with Aviate on the X. I think I agree with Hyperlite...likely to be tough slogging, but Lenovo wants the US market badly, and may be prepared to do whatever it takes to have an upscale brand in their stable

Very glad to hear about a new Moto X. Wonder if it'll be the last hurrah of the Google-Moto relationship. If it drops to the prices of the current Moto X in time I can easily see it replacing my Nexus 4 in the winter or so.

Have a Moto X currently and will have to be convinced to upgrade.
Only thing missing from my perspective is wireless charging.
hmm...maybe new camera UI and OIS, if done correctly.
