Doom 3 Performance

At just under 30fps, Doom 3 is just to the wrong side of playable for most gamers. Of course, a platform like this will likely be used for gaming as a secondary function. It may be that the very casual gamer just wants to see the latest and greatest eye candy at a merely passable frame rate. Dropping from our High Quality setting down to Medium will improve performance to a comfortable level while only mildly decreasing the image quality.

Enabling AA is not a playable option for the X700 line at 1280x1024. At 10x7 with AA enabled, we only see 22fps. It’s definitely a better option to leave the AA setting off and go with 1280x1024 at Medium Quality for Doom 3 under the Mobility Radeon X700.

    Very interesting!

A broader comparison to not only PCIe would be welcome. How does this perform against the old centrino and ATI mobility ranges?

    just one thing -
how come i MUST have 10 pound heat sink w/ TURBO-JET fanZ to achieve a bit higher results in synthetic benchmarks
while the same (or close to) cpu is running in ~1 inch case and it's good enough to play NEW games

someOne is not telling the truth
