Any reason why several new laptops, including an XPS I think, are launching on LPDDR3 and does that impact any noticeable battery life and performance ? Re: LPDDR3, this is because Comet Lake doesn't advertise support for LPDDR4X more than likely.
Also, these are up on Lenovo's website already but so far they only have Whiskey Lake (e.g. 8265U). Hopefully the Comet Lake variants show up soon.Reply
I wish they used the other whatever_lake! And I hope the speakers "this time" are usable. On my 5th gen it is barely audible when I am having any noise on the next office. It is surprisingly weak. Reply
When LG gram can squeeze in 72wh battery, there is very little reason x1 should have only 51wh in it. I get it that it gives decent battery life but the target for x1 should have been to have the best possible not good enough for that price point. And why not the 10th gen icelake? Lg Gram is a better choice given it allows expandable memory and dual m2 slots and is lighter. Reply
It would be nice to see some 6 core Ice Lake chips out there - I pretty sure they are working on it but possibly running into difficulties. I hope it not just keep the 14nm factories continuing.Reply
A little late - The 7th gen has been shipping for over a month - I'm typing on one right now. A great machine except the mic doesn't work in Linux and the battery is pretty small; I get about 6 hours of light browsing.Reply
Would have been nice if they made it a little bit thicker and put in a thicker battery inside for longer battery life. Being a bit thicker would have also allowed for more space inside which probably could have lead them to also make vents a big bigger resulting in a cooler running laptop. Do your fans kick in often? Can you open many tabs and run a video on youtube without all the fans going crazy. Smartphones run youtube with no fans and they don't get that hot playing videos on youtube (same with iPads).Reply
My guess 6 and 8 core Ice Lakes come out as revision in early 2020. I am pretty sure higher core counts in the works but they are probably working things out in the new process and being carefulReply

This was widely and wildly misreported, even by Anandtech, though I'm sure Intel didn't want to make it clear.Comet Lake (look up every single model on ark) supports DDR4 or LPDDR3, just like 4+ year old Skylake.
Only a very select group of commercial Comet Lake CPUs (likely for vPro) launching Q1/Q2 2020 will support LPDDR4.
Besides slight battery savings, LPDDR4 does nothing for the anemic UHD 620 in Comet Lake. Reply
