Samsung and Google Android Event Moved to October 19

Google and Samsung will be hosting their joint Ice Cream Sandwich-New Nexus Phone event in Hong Kong on October 19th at 10:00am local time (which is October 18th at 10:00pm EST). The event, originally planned for October 11, was delayed out of respect for the late Steve Jobs.
Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0 for those of you not familiar with the code name, will unify the disparate smartphone (Android 2.x) and tablet (Android 3.x) versions of its mobile OS with a consistent UI and app framework. This will hopefully enable developers to more easily port their apps to all of the many screen sizes and resolutions that Android devices sport. As is normal with new Android launches, Samsung is expected to reveal a new phone that will show off the new operating system's capabilities and serve as a baseline for other Android partners' devices.
You can expect more from us about the new Android version and the new Samsung phone as details are revealed.

Verizon missed the GS2 for this and now I have to wait til Nov. for it to finally be available to purchase. It better have the OMAP 4460 and not the 4430. I want the Bionic to kiss my phone's ass. The screen is gonna be gorgeous either way.DigitalFreak - Thursday, October 13, 2011 - link

Ya, I'm not very excited for the 4460 at all. Looking at the iPhone4S preview that Anandtech posted a few days ago, I'd much rather Samsung use their Exnyos SOC. Better CPU and GPU performance.Actually, if the OMAP 4460 somehow had the SGX 543MP2 (A5 GPU), that would be acceptable as well. I can't believe how far ahead apple is in GPU performance, while Android phones are stuck with an SGX 540, which is about three times slower.

Back when Apple was stuck with the iPhone 4 SGX535, nobody complained how far back Apple was, even if the SGX540 was twice as fast.Now Apple gets the same lead (2x over Mali 400) but 6 months late. I am sure something else will beat the SGX543MP2 in an other 6 months.
Smartphones evolve pretty quickly these days.
The TI 4460 isn't a bad chip. The CPU is just as good as an Exynos. But like you said, the GPU performance will suffer if it's still the SGX540. The killer feature of the Nexus Prime will be the 1280x720 display. For the rest as long as it's at least 1.2 GHz and 1GB RAM it can't be a bad phone.

I've been eligible for upgrade on our corporate plan for a bit, but every new phone isn't a significant upgrade from my Droid 2 running Gingerbread. The Droid 3 is good, but lacks LTE (though that's not the highest feature on my list given battery life). The Droid Bionic looks pretty cool, but is just running Gingerbread, and who knows when they will upgrade it (it took over a year to take the Droid 2 from Froyo to Gingerbread), and I choose a phone based on the OS it comes with, not what is promised --too many carriers have proved a stumbling block to OS upgrades.I'm really hoping the Prime turns out to be the phone I'm hoping for. Can't wait to see AT review one.
