Samsung and Google Cancel Unpacked Event - May Delay Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich
by Kristian Vättö on October 7, 2011 11:14 AM ESTGoogle and Samsung had scheduled an event, Unpacked: Google Edition, for October 11th, but the companies today reported that the event has been canceled. It was expected that Samsung would release a new smartphone, which has been referred as both, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Prime in reports. Google was also set to launch the next version of Android (4.0) called Ice Cream Sandwich. The new Samsung phone would have run the new Android obviously.
No concrete reason for the cancelation was given, although Samsung said that they felt that "it wasn't the right time to announce a new product". This suggests that the companies decided to postpone the event due to Steve Jobs' death, and if this is the case, it's a very respectful call towards Steve. The event is set to be rescheduled at a later date but no further details have been given yet.

More likely has to do with the piss-poor state of the economy. They're probably waiting for Black Friday and hoping that prolonging it will help Apple Fans see the light (while earning some positive PR).phatboye - Friday, October 7, 2011 - link
I read else where on the interwebs (rumor of course) that during the event they would compare the Nexus/Android to the iPhone/iOS but since Jobs recent passing felt that this would not be tasteful so in respect of Jobs they are making a few minor changes to certain presentations.Not sure if this is true but it sound believable to me. The saddest thing though is that I am planning to pre-order this phone as it is time to retire my old feature phone so I hope they don't push the release back any further.

Yeah, that's certainly possible. Tim compared the iPhone 4S to Android devices numerous times to equivalent comparison from Samsung makes sense. I doubt the release is delayed that much, maybe a week or two.dagamer34 - Friday, October 7, 2011 - link

I still think Apple planned this in some way. I don't believe that Jobs died the day after the iPhone 4S was released. Died before? maybe. Not dead? Unlikely, but if someone can pull it off it's Jobs. Apple is brilliant at marketing, and I wouldn't put it past them to use Job's "death" to increase iPhone 4S sales.And if a funeral is planned for the 11th, how convenient is it that it was scheduled for the day this phone was set to be announced?
If it was because of the jabs at Apple in the presentation then that imo is no reason for a delay. It's jabs at APPLE, not Jobs. Everyone respects what Jobs has done for the tech world, even if not all of us liked him, but the world goes on.

I think that is an absurd and disrespectful thing to say. There is no conspiracy, a men dedicated to the company he founded did all that he could to see his final project through to the end. After that he hands his company over to his most trusted co-workers, and spent what remains of his time surrounded by his close friends and family. How is that unreasonable? Why do you have to assume such things?Frankly anyone on their deathbed who has the strength and conviction to see their work completed and then say good bye to those who meant the most to them, should be honored and respected.
I could see Google and Samsung wanting to hold off a little while out of respect, remember it was Eric Schmidt who stood on stage with Steve Jobs as part of the launch of the first iPhone. Schmidt also served on the board of directors of Apple, and owes many of those search hits to ios devices. Also despite the recent troubles with Samsung, Apple has sold over 250 million Samsung powered devices if you break down the sales of ipods, iphones, and ipads. Probably nearly double that if you count all the NAND used in various devices, and the ram used in various Mac platforms. A generous portion of Samsung profits over the last few years have come from Apple devices.
I certainly hope they would be so respectful.

Oh come on, Apple wouldn't stoop down that low - it would be utterly disrespectful and distasteful for them to do such a thing.Also, you must have forgotten about Tim Cook's letter to the employees later that day informing them Jobs had passed away earlier in the day.
Whether you liked Jobs or not doesn't matter - show some respect!

I never met Jobs so I would like to pose the question: If the CEO of any of Jobs' competitors had passed instead would He have postponed the launch of a new product?
