My Face on a CPU Cooler: Two Minutes with ASUS’ Ryujin CLC

One of the first events of the Computex week was ASUS’ Republic of Gamers press conference. In typical ASUS fashion, a glut of about 11 press releases landed in our inbox at once, with ASUS following the philosophy about dominating the news at any one exact moment. This has its downsides, such as the medium and low-impact news getting lost in all the noise. One of the items in that noise was about ASUS’ ROG branded CPU coolers, Ryujin and Ryuo. We actually wrote about them here and here.
One of the headlines coming away from that news was that both of the CLCs had embedded OLED displays on the CPU block. Either ASUS had a spare stock of OLED panels in the warehouse or something, because this idea is relatively esoteric, especially when the display has to compete with a bunch of LEDs in the case as well. The OLED display is capable of showing pictures, gifs, video, or system statistics.
Of course, with ASUS having the cooler on display and a webcam attached, the goal was to put ones glorious features on the unit. With my five o’clock shadow in place and chins in order, the process was relatively painless. The end result was something akin to a LinusTechTips YouTube thumbnail. I have lots to learn, clearly.
The software was clearly still a very early beta, and an ASUS rep was managing the station set up to take the pictures, perhaps showing that the software still has a while to go.
If that wasn’t enough, aside from the 1.77-inch OLED display, the Ryujin also uses an embedded fan in the block to help blow air over the nearby socket components, such as the power delivery, in order to avoid a completely still air scenario.

I can say for certain this is something I have never ever wanted or dreamed of having in my system. Yes at one time or another I wanted to have a LCD screen on the front of my system which could double as a 7-9 inch monitor if needed but this no thank you what a waste of resources. If it raises the price even a dollar that is a dollar way to much. No I am not afraid of change I just hate stupid stuff like this.Dragonstongue - Wednesday, June 20, 2018 - link
it is nice to have an integrated fan in the block to help blow air over nearby components (which absolutely every maker should be doing) skip the RGB BS and the added cost of an OLED display though ASUS, it just increases price for a very small potential buy "feature" maybe do it as an "add on" for those who would like something to make their cooler "different" than others.They probably do not care much, but seriously, folks should be looking at performance, durability, functionality over "bling" every day of the week, the ability to "add" bling is an awesome extra nice thing to have, but to "focus" on this bling at the cost of most everything else is just tarded to say the least.
why not have a small tower on the block to help capture any excess heat this way here it gives a larger surface to have 1 or 2 fans attached to it (like a V shape portion type thing, so you can angle the fans to better accommodate YOUR specific need..easy to replace fans is essential in my opinion, low flow for low db might as well just not bother having them, something in the 80-120mm range would need the extra real estate of the tower concept, and if they wanted to, they could have that OLED on the "face" of it anyways while still given ample room for a "proper" high flow low noise fan (20-40-60mm fans are often noisy as hell to get proper airflow and pressure, judging by the height or lack of likely the fan is very low flow and high noise because of space limitations (because they wanted it to be "bling" instead of function over looks)
