Good Old Games

Imagine a full library of classic PC games at your fingertips. Now imagine the ability to download these games for five or ten bucks. That’s what’s going on at Good Old Games, a new site whose focus is to bring those often hard to find classic PC titles to the masses. I know what you’re thinking. You use Vista so a lot of these simply would not work for you. Wrong. One of the great features that GOG.com offers is guaranteed compatibility with both Windows XP and Vista operating systems. They’ve done all the work for you to insure a seamless experience with any game they have available. And best of all, every game on the site will be DRM free. That’s right. No copy protection or security measures that would hinder your ability to install games on multiple computers or burn them to a disc. Once you’ve purchased a game, it’s yours to do with as you please.

Initially, the site will have 30 titles available from the Codemasters and Interplay libraries, including the coveted Fallout series. New games will be added weekly thereafter. Once the site officially goes live, gamers will have full after-purchase support for the games they download, as well as the ability join their community of good old gamers. Beginning September 8th, beta keys for early access to the site will be e-mailed to all those who sign up before September 7th at midnight, so go to GOG.com and sign up now!

Fallout 1/2 by JarredWalton, 523 days ago
Both are definitely worth picking up, particularly if they go in and address any compatibility issues. As it stands, both have some problems on Vista. FO1 has a "black background" bug that goes away when you pretty much boot with no extra stuff (disable all non-MS services and all startup tasks), but FO1/2 both have color palette problems as well. Still great RPGs if you've never tried them.

Looking forward to Sacrifice and MDK/2 -- hopefully, they'll have Messiah and the Descent series too...

Dune 2/2000 would be another good one to have.

I'd love to get Sacrifice running again.

Man, I loved that game.

If classic games from Sierra (Police Quest, Space Quest, King's Quest, etc) are included then you can count me in!

Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series.

Lucasarts by Spivonious, 523 days ago
If they get Lucasarts in there, I am totally in. I could never get TIE Fighter working right on Windows XP.

Giantz, Citizen Kabuto is crap by 9nails, 522 days ago
I never got to finish Giants because the friggin game crashed more than Windows Me. On the sucks-because-its-unstable factor, I would put it close to Final Fantasy 7 on the PC. The game itself was fun right up to those crashes.
