Cell architecture uses Rambus XDR Memory
blog post by Anand Lal Shimpi
Update: I've done a quick look at some of the announcements today, including the Rambus/Cell announcement. Check it out here.

At the International Solid State Circuits Society conference in San Francisco today, Rambus announced that the new Cell processor uses both Rambus XDR memory and their FlexIO processor bus. Because Rambus designed the interface for both the memory controller(s) and the processor interface, the vast majority of signaling pins are using Rambus interfaces - a total of 90% according to Rambus.

I'm trying to dig up more information on the Rambus interfaces in Cell right now, but it's definitely interesting stuff - stay tuned as more should be unfolding over the course of the day.
