  Wasn't the whole point of calling it a "retina" display the fact that 300 PPI was the point at which the human eye would be "unable" to distinguish digital print from printed text? I guess that definition doesn't count anymore since this is 264 PPI...

  Pixels being distinguishable by the human eye are a factor of size AND distance. Jobs used 300 as a base rule of thumb for a phone. For a tablet you can have less and still get the same effect. With a larger display, like with a PC, you would likely have it even farther way, just as you would have a TV even farther away. Again, pixel size AND distance.

  What is the point in having all those pixels when you cant do anything with them? You cant even open two windows, so you cant do any of the things that really require more screen space, such as cutting multiple text and image selections from multiple tabs and pasting them into one email. Ha! Make me laugh... You just try doing that on one of these pieces of trash. lol.
  
  You cant play a video in one corner, chat in another corner, and manage your documents in another corner. So WTF you gonna do with 3 megapixel display? Look at dumbed down buttons and dumbed down optionless tabs and windows in a higher resolution? LOL.
  
  And worst of all, if you play a game that actually could theoretically use all those pixels, it is going to drain the battery so frickin fast you wont even want to play it.
  
  Of course none of this will actually stop 50 million dumbed down idiot morons from sheeple-trampelling each other to rush out and buy this crap.

  Have to agree; I would say that the ipad3 hardware has outgrown the ipad3 software. Although it remains the best tablet out there it could've been better software-wise.

  You can now clearly display a webpage all at once without having to zoom in on just the text while cutting off the side banners, for example.
  
  It will be small, but it will be sharp and clear, which is great for those of us who actually go to eye doctors regularly and receive updated prescriptions.

  What a bizarre statement, do you print smaller texg because your new laser printer does 600dpi fine quality output? No, of course not, it just means your text is clean and sharp. This is very important for a device where you are expected to read things on a small display, displays have failed to match the sharpness of the printed page for a very long time and that is part of the problem with eyes strain, never mind the basic issue of navigating webpages and the rest, when you zoom in and out of a page due to the small screen it is incredibly helpful that text does not become an indistinguishable blur the moment you zoom out. When 90% of the usefulness of the device is for displaying text/web, this is fundamental to the function of the device, the previous 720p was not optimal at all, it was a kludge solution we had to settle for due to technological limitations, no one would design a 10" table for reading books and the rest with such a horribly low resolution. Apple finally has made it as it should be for its purpose, or technology has finally caught up to the concept.

  "Retina" is just a marketing trademark. It actually has no bearing on the ppi of a device. Apple could have called the original ipad display "Retina". Retina only serves to add a suggestion of implied quality much like "Angus" in the beef industry. For those of you who didn't know "Angus" beef is actually of low to middling flavor and marbling.
