They're pretty sweet. I've got an old 180 that I like, but aggravates me every time I open it. The drive bays changed from those silly cage things to that side-view slot load are the best part, and the button not being behind the door is delicious icing on a delicious cake. Reply

I have been waiting for this case since I first saw it from the Computex screenshots. I have mulled over buying a P183 for a while now, but didn't want to pull the trigger due to it's dated build techniques.

I currently own an Antec 900 and it is loud. Not obnoxiously so. But easily north of 55dB, close to 65dB under load. As this is in the room where I sleep, I have been waiting on bated breath for the P280 to hit the stores, and after reading this review, I think I have to have one.

Whether I win one or not, I'm still going to buy it and save my ears from my current Antec 900.

    Thanks guys!

This case has a lot to offer with cable management holes and tie scraps for back plate. A case that offers nice cable management and low sound. I'm very impressed with this case lay out which is hard to do for a person owning a HAF 932 but I have been won over with this design for any future built pc's. Reply

Dustin Sklavos, Case -Reviewer of the Year!

Someone who cannot have the time for anything but reviewing cases, judging by how many case reviews he gets out there. That they're the best around does not go unappreciated (by me at least). I don't think most people understand how awful most case reviews are (much less every other component I see out in the wild). Cut and paste does not make for a good review, and most people don't try to give even passing interest to properly writing about cases and so many other components too. Mainly, its about enthusiasm... Which must be difficult to summon on a case by case basis (a case pun, back at you).

I've got a P180 and, while I like it, the P280 would be a nice upgrade in a number of ways. The drive trays that face out the side of the case instead of towards the back would be worth it all by themselves -- I haaaaaaate the rear-facing drive trays in the P180. Reply

I used to think you had to be flashy from a case perspective to really stand out from the crowd. It seems nowadays the opposite is true. This case and many other Antecs have that simple look that while plain still draws attention. There's something to be said for that simple elegance, definitively will look at this one for my next build. Reply

I like the cases coming out recently.
removable dust covers, PSU on the bottom, lots of room for GPUs, wiring solutions.

I think the dust issue was way under-rated for so long.
An air cooler looses so much of its ability over time... when gunked up with dust.

I have kept my brilliant P182SE case as long as I can. Three months ago, one of the USB connectors fell out. Last week, the second front connector fell out. One of the grommets detached itself recently too. It is a glorious case, be certain...but it is showing its age and I need a strong, reliable replacement. Reply

Picking a case has always been the hard part for me in building a new PC. I'm not a fanboy by any means, although I currently have the P182 and the original old school Lanboy. Going from the Lanboy to the P182 was a dramatic change and made me love quiet PC cases. My only gripe about the P182 was the lack of room. Removing the internal HDD bay to fit my 9800gtx was disheartening but a necessary evil.

I was planning on going with with the Silverstone FT02 or RV02-E but now that this case is out, its no contest. Looking forward to building my Sandy-E bridge in this case!

Mid-plane fans... hmm... that could let you load it up with harddisks, run front and mid-plane low-flow fans, and still get decent cooling with enough airflow to keep a hotter (but not too crazy) GPU/CPU setup cool.

    Hmmmm...

I have always loved the quality in which Antec builds into their cases, you can see it from every corner of the product. On top of that great build quality you can now get a very quiet experience. Would love to make my room that much more appealing and quiet with this sitting in the corner. Reply

I've been overall impressed w/Antec. I liked the P180 design, but chose to go with a silverstone case on one computer, and a coolermaster on another.

loosing the chambers isn't such a big deal either.

I've got a P180 and a P160 (anybody remember that one) sitting under my desk right now... I've always built with Antec cases and up until very recently, with Antec power supplies. My last two PSU purchases were Corsair - only because of the single rail - if Antec made a single rail, modular PSU I'd be all over it! Reply

Antec should consider including an insert to cover one of/both the top 120 mm spaces. This will help with reducing noise, while leaving open the radiator option. Reply

Since then, I've continued to make frequent use of Antec cases for systems that I build. I would be happy to have this new P280 model to play with, as well, since I haven't really checked out Antec's higher end cases, lately. Reply

I was also looking at the Corsair cases as of late, I couldn't find anything else I liked other than the same case. I have an original P180 without cable management and have been dying with the cables lately, plus I wanted a bigger case for more hard drives since I'm maxed. I was considering a P183 but couldn't justify the price to upgrade to an identical looking case. My case is still perfect and I am having trouble justifying the purchase, so I better win one instead! Hello Anandtech,

I have been following your great reviews and contests for years and years and have noticed that some contests due to the size of the prize, you had to restrict to US only, but smaller prize's, i guess can be made as Worldwide contests so that global readers can have a chance to win as well.

    Please think about it. :)

Looks like this would be a huge improvement over my original P180. I just installed an SSD in mine... nightmare. I ended up having to use a horrible series of adaptors to mount it to a 5.25" drive bay, because none of the screw holes lined up between any of my 3.5" adaptors and the P180s 3.5" trays or lower drive cage. Not with this case, I think they made great design choices and I really hope these filter down to the lower tier cases in the coming months/years.

Thanks for the great reviews and the giveaways are always fun :)

    I would like a P280.

The review was solid. As much as I don't like the "Larger" cases, I think this could work out OK for me.

Currently using an antec 900 case, but I got to say I prefer the more subdued case w/o all the LED fans and no see-through case side. Being more soundproofed is also a plus (my PS fan is starting to get noisy) and this one lets me orient the PSU properly. Reply

Im so glad to see Antec making a more elegant case thats bigger rather than smaller. Mobos are getting bigger and more populated, air sinks are too, psu's are longer, ram is taller etc... and everyone wants to squeeze this stuff into smaller boxes...it just dont work. These are desktops, so going bigger isnt going to hurt anything. If i wanted a case to drag all over h--l's half acre than i would get a big desktop with a removeable tray, custom build a lanbox to fit it and go from there.I saw some others complaining about dual chambers, like on a P182, and i agree with them, but if it was implemented in bigger cases than it would work to our advantage, instead of being a pita! So the moral of the story manufacturers....build bigger cases already!! Antec has the right idea here...super mid-tower with a elegant look and NO plastic armor. Thats another trend that needs to die.Oh, and yes, id love to win one too!! Reply

I desperately need a new case, it was bought on Craigslist for $40. It's spray painted black, has electrical tape holding it together, and cut holes for ventilation. I bought it because my original mid-tower couldn't hold a Geforce GTX260 without pressing up against my hard drive cage. Reply

Also, for anyone who happens to read this, there is a bill in Congress right now trying to be passed that will CENSOR THE INTERNET for Americans and American websites. Do what you can to help spread the word and protect the freedom that the internet provides us. You can go to Mozilla's homepage to find out more.

Thanks again AnandTech and congratulations to whomever wins this.

Antec has always been my choice for cases. After switching from the P180 case back to my aluminum P160 Antec case, the following features are enough to make me finally upgrade my case.

"The enclosure is bigger and easier to work in, and has more room for expanding the system inside. There's plenty of space for mounting a good, thick 240mm radiator at the top, cable routing is slightly better, and the two internal fan mounts invite experimentation."

"Toolless locking mechanisms for the 5.25" drive bays are in place, as well as six drive trays that can support both 3.5" and 2.5" drives, with silicone grommets for the 3.5" drives to minimize vibration."

"A massive cutout in the tray to maximize compatibility with aftermarket cooling, and rubber-lined holes surround the tray for routing cables to the back."

Honestly... that case just looks amazing, and it would replace my 2008 case nicely.

I think the hds shouldn't be sideways. From here, it looks like that reduces airflow pushed by the intake fans. That may not matter much to the hds (cooling wise) but I'd rather have more intake airflow to cool a high end gpu. Also, downward facing psu wouldn't work to well on a rug. Reply
