I would gift it to my Son who is wanting one of these. I am sure he would be all over hacking the system and setting up a wireless server. He also claims to want to use it as a laptop.Reply
i would use it for school since amazon now does textbook rentals. i could also use it as a remote for my htpcs running xbmc. and my wife would love to use it in the kitchen when she is cooking to look up recipes on it instead of going in the living room to look them up.Reply
I would use it while travelling and to enhance the interactivity for my students when we have classes outdoors or at public locations.... which is every week :)Reply
I've never owned a computing device smaller than a desktop PC, due to my somewhat restricted budget and "need" for gaming capabilities, home-built PCs are the only thing I've ever owned. Yet, with the explosion of consumption content available online and increase in power of portable devices, the ability to check email, check a website, or any other common everyday task I use a PC for on a portable device is very appealing.
So, in short, the Tab would become a piece of "furniture" on the main level of my house, probably in the kitchen. Available as a tool for anyone to use as they see fit.Reply
I'd use it as a mobile office on the go. And of course, sitting in an accessible part of the house it would be great for reading or browsing the web. Also, I know a couple boys who'd love to play Angry Birds on it.Reply
I shall use this handheld tablet computing device to realize my plans of world domination. Bestow it upon me and I shall spare AnandTech.....for last >:)Reply
You know I'd really like to get my hands on one of these but can't really afford one right now... I think this would be great for running my movie reviewing website- it'd be very cool for me to be able to design the site and post reviews from it. Plus, my old laptop broke down so now I'm working from home. Reply
I've got some upcoming trips across the pond, so this would complement them nicely as opposed to getting a new laptop - it's one or the other at this pointReply
I am currently working on my BS in Computer Security. I would the web interface for accessing my school's site. Also, I would like to mess around with an Android tablet to test the security of it. I might even write a few apps to use it for testing the security of networks. I would probably also use it, with the B&N app or the Kindle app to replace some of my textbooks. Good luck to all, but I hope you all lose. I wanna win.Reply
Unfortunately I don't have any spiders that need squishing or doors that need propping open, so perhaps I would have to search the Android Marketplace for a suitable app substitute.
I'd use it both for personal and professional reasons. I'm a developer who targets Android and iOS, and I have an Android phone, iPod Touch, and iPad. I'd really like to start developing for Honeycomb tablets, but I don't have the budget right now.
I'd probably use it to replace the iPad for personal use as well. I love the iPad for my daily blog reading and as an eBook reader, but I'm much more comfortable in Android in general.Reply
This is my entry. I would use a tablet like the Galaxy tab as a "Companion" system to offload simple tasks, such as internet browsing while I am watching TV or playing a game, or to use to keep myself entertained while waiting at the doctor's office or the mechanic's. Reply
I'd use the tablet as a highly portable compute device to take with me on extended travel for work. That way I don't have to take a personal laptop and a work laptop. I could just take a work laptop and this thin and lightweight tablet. It would make getting through security easier too.Reply
If I get into Cornell for grad school, I'll use the Galaxy Tab to take notes, sync with my files on my desktop and occasionally entertain myself between classes. Thanks for the chance!Reply
No laptop, only a phone and a desktop. I would use it for more than just a reader or game device. I'd be able to get my kids on it, my wife could use it, it would be awesome. Reply
controlling my av/system and my wife would use it for posting stuff up on ebay/craigslist. She also does sewing so she can use it to lookup tihngs on yourtube/google/etc.Reply
I'd use it the same way I'd use any consumption-only media device: looking stuff up on the internet from my couch when I'm too lazy to go to the desktop.Reply
I'd get a cheap pay as you go phone, which would cost me about $10-15 / month with my usage statistics (no friends) and order a 3g dataplan for the tablet.
I'd cancel my $90 / month sprint plan and sell my Evo 4g. (Great phone, but benefit not worth $90 / month).Reply
I would use this as a portable notetaking tablet for my classes, and if it doesn't work out, then I'll give it to my grandpa so he can message his grandchildren from time to time ;)Reply
I would mostly use this tab for my classes to not carry around my XPS16 (back pain relief) I would also like to use it as an always on light computer for browsing the internet or streaming videos from my pc's at home. It would also be great for travelling, which i've been doing a lot interning with Intel in California and going to school in Florida (GO GATORS!Reply
If I had one of these I could pretend I was actually busy at work... while playing angry birds. But it would be a daily fight with the kids over who would get to use it... they have the project research angle I do not have.Reply
I'd use it to give IT more work by pushing for tablet integration in the office. It would be my new clipboard, and all the office chicks would swoon!Reply
I would test/develop on it for work, then I would take it home and do what most do with tablets these days...play on the internet, maybe a game or two ;)Reply
Hmm, subsonic, youversion bible, taking notes with springpad, and not having to worry about the clicky clicky of the laptop keyboard while doing so. I would also use it for recording music and as a test bed to develop a guitar effects app for android.Reply
I would use this to save the world!! Who are we kidding, we'd all play games on it like silly little school children, but then eventually we'd do productive things with it ;)Reply
I would totally use it as the ultimate portable media consumption device while not at home. Movies, Netflix, podcasts, music, blogs, Facebook, etc.Reply
*creepy robot voice* I'd use it for testing. Also for feeding orphans. And reading ebooks and surfing the internet. Actually it would likely become my default internet device. Reply
Yes, I'll take one of those! I've reviewed the reviews of the tablets, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is near the top of the list, especially if it is FREE!
I'd go up to the anyone with an ipad/ipad2 and say "I'm sorry that you wasted your money on that POS, here, take a look at my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1"Reply
I build a lot of robotics hobby projects (pure nerd, and I love it) and would love to have a tablet I could write a remote control app on to control my various robots. Eventually I'd like to mount a camera to the front of the vehicles and stream it to the tab.
I'm also in the middle of building a Christmas light automation system (like those beer commercials you see with the Christmas light shows going in sync with the music). I'd love to write an app for a tablet that would let me control and build new song sequences on a honey comb tablet. Would be easier to carry around the yard then a laptop for sure!
Also a web surfing/video watching device I can use in bed while my wife is asleep would go a long ways =)Reply
I would give this to my mother. She is in her 60's and the complications of a PC are just too much for her. With the entire family using Social Networks to post family pictures, she no longer receives pictures of her grandchildren in the mail. This would allow her to view the memories she no longer receives my mail...Reply
What really caught my attention about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was its thinness and panel quality. I can't imagine listening to a lot of music on it, but it would be great for web browsing on the go, and the ability to display 720p videos natively on a large display (by mobile standards) is a huge bonus. I WANT!!Reply
use it to fully mirror my desktop to keep track of and push tasks while at work -- would also set it up as a TV/media center on my work at desk to keep me entertained with everything anand -- LOLReply
Well if I would have won the ASUS I would have surprised my wife as a replacement for her laptop. If I win this one I would need to properly evaluate it before making my decision ;-)Reply
As a computer science major, It would be awesome to have a device to write software for that runs on Android. The opensource world has helped me in learning so much from so many amazingly talented software authors out there.Reply
I'm starting college soon you see, and I would hate to lug around my old HP laptop. Now that Amazon allows the renting of textbooks, the Galaxy Tab would be the ideal "all-in-one" to have. I could use it for multimedia, education, and... reading Anandtech :]. Reply
I'm a programmer at a small video game studio, and I'd use a Tab as our designated testing device for developing our games on Android, as well as bringing it to conferences for demoing. We've been eagerly awaiting an Android device with the graphics muscle to start closing the gap with iOS in the gaming arena!Reply
I'd use this to (hopefully) replace my aging, three-year-old MacBook. I'd also probably use this as a tool in my live sets as an electronic musician. I could also use it to remote into my home computer (thank you, LogMeIn and TeamViewer) whenever there was an important paper I forgot in my sleep-deprived drive to school.
Plus, who WOULDN'T want a cool tablet like this?Reply
Samsung and Apple sure do seem to compete in the same market places quite a bit. I would think that would make it difficult to for Samsung to be an Apple component supplier.Reply
I would use the Tab to port my iPad app to Android because Android desperately needs more tablet based apps for Honeycomb. With the current market share I can't justify buying one yet :)Reply
I just recently got in to app development and it would be nice to have a tablet to test on. I would also like to use it as an educational tool for my two kids.Reply
You know, I always coveted the iPad, then the iPad 2 as my dream tablet. After playing with a demo unit, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now my dream tablet especially now that Google is putting more development muscle behind Honeycomb.
As a hardcore Apple fanboy for years, feeling the pull of a Droid tablet over the iPad is completely unexpected. If Samsung manages to get other people the impression they've given me, Apple might have a problem.Reply
Looks like a sleek little device. I'm more used to iOS, but it'd be fun to give android a whirl and see how it does for my relatively light usage. Browsing and shows, maybe some games seem to be what I'd use it for.Reply
I'd seriously use this for everything but the hardest core of computing. I'm looking into developing on Android and with the current state of the tablet apps, I think there's a lot of room to expand on what's available and would really enjoy making some apps for it.Reply
My aging Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is doing very little for me these days. Especially with the BME bug that Nokia left unfixed when they abandoned all their N8x0 customers.
I need a REAL tablet to do real work (and real play).Reply
but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?"Reply
Need the tablet to makes for it! I am a grad student at DePaul University, I am doing a masters in Computer Game Development, I want the tablet :DReply
I've been wanting to develop for tablet based computers for a while. I've been dreaming up some augmented reality system for video, so I guess I'd use it to design/test that.Reply
I want to start coding games again like when I was young(er). Fun old school games that can be enjoyed by many, but still taking advantage of the new tech (touch screen, accelerometers etc.)Reply
I could easily see this tab replacing the aging Dell laptop that's become a permanent fixture on our living room coffee table. My wife constantly uses it while we watch TV. After hours hunched over on the laptop, Facebooking and whatnot, she'll invariably complain about lower back pain. If anything, the Tab figures to be much more comfortable to use in our living room.Reply
I would use it as the majority of people use tablet: consumption-based usage but I would also finally try development for Android platform, I need some divergence from my mostly .Net development...Reply
I do a one hour tech talk on "show and tell days" at my local neighborhood school. Would love to take this machine there to have all of those kids put their paws on it!Reply
I know i sound like a skipping record, but a nice tablet could really free up a lot of space at my desk in the lab, us poor grad students get some major hand me downs. Blurry CRT and 1.4 ghz Pentium 4....oy!Reply
I have a huge collection of technical documents in pdf format. They are a pain to print and I hate having to lug my laptop everywhere to read them.
This would be the ultimate pdf storage and reader. Always with me, loads of storage, awesome screen and very natural touch interaction to flip through pages. Plus I can search and make notes.Reply
I'd use it as a Honeycomb of sexy gauge pods in my race car see miles per hour, G forces, and even miles per gallon on my Turbo all wheel drive race car! Will post a video as wellReply
I'd give this tablet to my mom. Her 58th birthday is this Sunday (the 31st) and it'd make a great gift. She has a laptop but she complains that it's too big and heavy to carry around with her, so this would really fit the bill!Reply
I would use this to replace both my paper notebook and giant laptop during work meetings. Would be so much easier if I could have all my notes in the same place and only had to carry a small little tablet. Plus my boss raves about his iPad all danged day, so I would love to rub this in his face.
"Apple is the greatest company that ever existed."
Winning this tab would actually help with my job immensely. I do a lot of IT consulting and showing the power of an on-the-go tablet in business environments is a very requested thing these days - I'm almost tempted to buy the Toshiba one based on featureset but having an Epic I love Samsung's screens (even if they do tend to be a bit slow with officially updates - thank xda forums for helping there).Reply
is way better than no tablet at all! I've been really curious about the galaxy tab after using a galaxy s phone for a year now.. Updates to the phone have been pretty lacking.Reply
I would use this to read this site and watch videos online while hanging out with the family, who always want to watch crappy TV shows about interior design.
I could probably find some use for school this coming year as well.Reply
Use it to figure out how to build custom ROMs (assuming BL is unlocked). Love my Android phone, but it's my main source of communications and need it to be stable.Reply
It would be for general purpose home and school use. I would keep books on it, particularly my electronic copies of school books and role playing rules, browse while on the couch, maybe watch some netflix with it on occasion.Reply
I'm almost always around a wifi hotspot whether at work, at a coffee shop, or at home. I need access to email and calendars and stuff but I don't like pulling out my laptop every time because of how big and bulky it is (not to mention how I have to plug it in regularly to keep the battery charged). Switching to a tablet would make my life sooo much easier...Reply
I just recently purchased a Toshiba Thrive. I wasn't overly concerned about aesthetics as much as ports and functinoality. I know it's on the chunky side, but I'm pretty happy with it.
But now that I have laid out cash, winning a Galaxy Tab would go to show that my purchase was badly timed. Kind of like when I bought a DLP television in mid 2006 and then it seems 3 months later, major manufacturuers abandoned DLP for inexpensive and better quality LCD and plasma TV's. I should have waited a few more months.
So by purcahsing a Thrive, I'll win the Galaxy Tab thus proving that I have a knack for throwing away my money with the worse possible timing. Yet win or lose in less than 3 months time a superior tab with Tegra 3 and 64GB of storage will be commonplace for $199 purchasable at the local Walgreen's next to the pocket calculators and pencil sharpeners or Amazon will have some super duper self branded tab reeking of the same Kindle awesomeness that has yet to hit the android tablet segment..Reply
I would use this tablet for books, home entertainment, on my sporadically frequent travels, and as a couchtop laptop replacement for web browsing.Reply
Lots of activities: Read books with Kindle Listen to Music Browse the internet, without a hot laptop on my lap Test Remote Terminal to see how well it works and if it is worth the training time for my customers.Reply
I would use it as a practical device - mobile music/entertainment and idea scratchpad as well as an e-reader. I'm a techie without the tech. Hoping to level up my equipment!Reply
I thought I'd get a cheap android tablet from woot, Pocket edge with 1.6.. if you have any clue how bad that product is , you now how badly I need a honeycomb piece of beauty!!Reply
If I won this, I would use it for school. I have a lot of books to read online and sitting in front of a computer all day or even taking my laptop to the couch can be inconvenient sometimes.
I would also use it for watching movies as well. Reply
I would use the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to read medical school textbooks, use Google Body, watch online lectures (with flash), and most importantly, play Angry Birds. Reply
I'd use it to watch videos around the house, browse the web more comfortably, and get work done more discretely at committee meetings. There are a lot of circumstances where the battery life, size, and design of a full notebook just don't fit the bill.Reply
I took Robert C Martin's advice about always learning.... I spend about 20 hours a week reading technical books on Safribooksonline (varios topics, mainly programming) using the free account I get my university. I'd use the transformer for reading the tech books online, it would make MUCH easier for me. Reply
This looks like a great tablet. I would use this to keep up with email for work after hours so I can spend more time with my family and less time in front of a computer.Reply
If I were to win, I'd use a Galaxy Tab to immerse myself in Google Android's Honeycomb. I have an iPhone but I have never tried Android and I would love to have a Tablet. I would use it to share pictures with my family, listen to music, browse the web, and expand my reading library! Please pick me! :-)Reply
I would give to my wife use around the house while caring for our 17 month old at home. She just can't get to the desktop too much with him going non-stop.Reply
i dont have a laptop or a tablet and i start school in 15 days. This would be great for my studies as a computer science major. PLEASE PICK ME! :)Reply
When our 6 year old laptop died, my wife and I decided to buy a tablet to share between the two of us. She's an artist, and wanted something with a wacom digitizer, so we did some research and found a good deal on an Asus EP-121.
This Windows 7 based Asus tablet has been a big hit with our whole family. My wife, and kids, have fallen in love with it. Unfortunately, whenever I go to use the tablet I can never seem to find it..
This galaxy tab would hopefully increase our tablet supply enough that I might actually be able to use one once in a while.Reply
I would use it to replace my textbooks for grad school. I have a bad back, and carrying those textbooks around really weighs on me after a while. Getting a tablet and etextbooks would be much lighter! Reply
I would use a tablet for wide variety of things. Work emails for when I'm not at my desk, listen to music, surf the web, play video games or watch Netflix or YouTube during breaks or when I'm hanging out at coffee shops while waiting for my buddies to show up (I'm usually the first one there).Reply
If I won, I'd use this to in the following ways: - Help teach my daughter via educational games (and slowly acclimate her to gaming) - Pass away the boredom while on travel (planes, trains, but no automobiles) - Replace my wife's aging laptop that she really only uses for simple browsing.Reply
If I won the galaxy pad I would create a custom mount for it and put it in my car as a headunit. It would be in portrait mode and output sound to the whole vehicle as well as being able to pick up internet from wifi if needed. I would probably end up writing my own android application to have a good music interface that would be safe and easy to use in the car.Reply
missed the transformer, maybe I'll have better luck winning... THE GALAXY! Wait... i dun get countless star systems in the bargain? a spiffy tablet isn't a bad consolation prize.... ;)Reply
the Tab is a great Tablet! I have my desktop computer, but I am certainly behind the times and need something to take with me on the go. So if I win a Tab, then I will simply use it all the time to stay connected and have bragging rights with my friends, unlike now, when I am so far behind the curve that it is pretty pathetic :-(
I would use this to help bring about would peace, end hunger, and help balance the U.S. budget. Or, play games. Lots and lots of mindless games...Reply
This would be soooooooooooo cool to win. I've been looking for some time at these, and I read your stuff everyday and this would be awesome! Thanks!Reply
I am looking to replace my ancient Mac G5 laptop with something that is marginally more functional (and maybe is actually portable.) I mostly use the Mac for browsing and writing, but it is of limited use as a portable device since the battery decided that its operational lifetime was about five minutes.Reply
In a world where the internet controls you welcome the the galaxy that gives you back the control. Wherever I am I can get to the internet, email, notes, docs, games, picture taking and many more. The Galaxy tab 10.1 gives me the ability to do all on a large pure HD screen and slimness and lighter than any tablet on the planet. Reply
I know I would definitely take this on my upcoming vacation in December. Other then that it would be great to carry around the house, use it as a portable Netflix since I don't have a laptop. Reply
If I were to win I would use it for quite a few things:
1. As my primary work machine. I am a project manager and this would be great to take with me for notes from meeting to meeting...much lighter than my beast laptop.
2. To load movies on to keep the kids entertained it the car.
3. Most importantly, I would let my wife use this for reading in bed at night instead of her noisy laptop that usually keeps me up!
Thanks! By the way, I love the site, the thorough reviews really keep us lay-people informed!Reply
I would give it to my mother who's permanently disabled from a cryptococcal meningitis infection so she can perform basic functions like checking email and browsing the web from her chair. She would also love it as a book reader and a media player, especially since she uses special music to treat her tinnitus.Reply
I would use the Galaxy Tab to entertain my family on long road trips.
Not only could I use the local storage on the tablet to store videos that my kids love, I would also be able to show off pictures once we reach relatives homes.Reply
If I say that I already own an HP Touchpad, and that I would like to get this tablet just so... would I win if my comment was picked? Basically, how important is it that I wouldn't really use it.Reply
Read to my son, watch Netflix, use PlayOn, waste time playing games and take to classes since I've re-enrolled in school at 34 years of age and my i7 laptop battery doesn't last long enough to complete a class! Reply
I would used this Tab 10.1 for work e-mail, calendar, misc. on the road productivity and for entertainment...web browsing, movies, (hopefully in the future netflix), etc.Reply
I've been itching to get one of these since I saw the first reviews. I'd use it waste all the time that it will save me. Faster through the need-to-dos means more time for the want-to-dos.Reply
I've been itching to get one of these since I saw the first reviews. I'd use it waste all the time that it will save me. Faster through the need-to-dos means more time for the want-to-dos.Reply
I would built an augmented reality app that was so invasive I'd tape it to my face and rely on opinions and reviews to steer my every purchase and action.Reply
...would be great for watching the non-race (practices, quals, etc) F1 footage on the train. As it stands I don't have time in the schedule to enjoy that sort of thing, and it's not exactly easy to enjoy it on my phone.Reply
I would use the Galaxy Tab 10.1 purely for entertainment while I travel for work. I can only imagine the pleasure I could achieve watching a Tab, while drinking a Tab, on a plane!Reply
that I am not going to use this tablet for research. Gah, who am I kidding, the first app that I would get for it is Mendeley! Reading journal papers on the go, in a queue, on the pooper would be awesome.Reply
I would use to new Galaxy Tab to sit and look pretty along side my Galaxy Epic (custom rooted btw...) and then use the 4G wifi hotspot on the Epic to provide internet access for the Tab so that I can use my LogMeIn ignition app to remote into the computers at work and provide tech support for all of my users, with out having to carry around my laptop. Would kill time with angry birds and catch up on my YouTube subscriptions (FPSRussia and FreddieW !!). So that's how I would use the Tab... So please sir... may I haz?
(I know I won't win, but can't hurt to try right!?!)Reply
Pinky: What we going to do with a Galaxy Tab, Brain? Brain: Same thing we do with everything, Pinky. Try to take over the world! Pinky: With androids? Brain: Why not? Pinky: They make my bottom hurt but then I get to sit on this big donut! ha-ha-ha Brain hurts him, and rightly so...Reply
he needs new computer which doesn't have bloat of choices and options doesn't even like windows7 cause it's too different from Windows 95 lol
now this tablet is touch friendly so i hope he can browse web effortlessly ipad doesn't support flash but this one is the true old laptop replacement!!Reply
I'd use the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to replace my old (and physically failing) Dell Inspiron e1505 for web surfing, email and content consumption where practical. That's really it. As a disabled person, I think a good tablet would be easier to use than the roughly six pound Dell. Hope I win. (Don't we all?)Reply
I have been reading and watching for AnandTech to continue it's reviews for the latest Tablets and Android OS. Wow it would be awesome to win this Samsung. It's a beauty!!
I would use the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to surf the web, listen to music, play Angry Birds (or MAYBE some other games), read books, watch movies, and just have fun with it!Reply
I would load my vacation pics directly from the SD card onto the Galaxy Tab....while my wife tries to figure out how she can do the same on her IPAD!!Reply
Okay, so it'd really be for my wife. I'd use as a replacement for our Toshiba laptop that she constantly complains is too heavy to lounge on the couch with. I'm not an avid Android user, but she's had a bit of experience as an Epic 4G phone owner.Reply
I travel around to visit clients and show them designs. I've been contemplating getting a tablet of some kind because carry around my laptop is kind of a pain in the butt. I'd love to win this!Reply
I would use the tablet to satisfy all my Multimedia needs. I'd also use it to entertain my kids and something that my wife can keep up with her facebook/skype.Reply
I would use it as a remote to run a home automation system... but first step would be the HTPC remote and couch browser. Hey, gotta start somewhere.Reply
I will use it to disassemble and show how they make a better device than the iPad then generate a list of patents which the iPad infringes on in order to help Samsung Patent stomp Apple from trolling.Reply
I would use this tab as a resource for patient education at my job. Having all medical information available in one place as opposed to pamphlets, books, dictionaries, etc would be incredibly useful for my patients.Reply
If I was a lucky winner, I would use it for my detailing business that I have to keep track of appointments, and most importantly show customers before/after pictures. The display is very big and bright and very nice for viewing pictures. And lastly, would use it for keeping hours, which is very handy too (instead of using pen and paper).
I cants afford ones of these just like I cants affords an education. It'd be nice to have one. I'd take this mama-jama to the limit with root, ice cream w/full google experience.Reply
Since I don't own a laptop, I will use it for my mobile needs like, surfing the web while i'm relaxing at a near by park with WiFi access, at the cafeteria and when traveling in a bus and a plane. Also, to show off my photos and home made videos to my friends and family. Thank You.Reply
+ Some bed time reading/bed time game playing + Watching flash videos on most of the websites I frequent, including the great Anandtech.com + Video calling my friends with Google Talk voice and video (since Honeycomb is the only tablet OS which currently supports that). + Using it as a personal navigation and entertainment assistant in the car and save my phone's battery life a bit. + Most other obvious uses like web browsing, emails, time killing, chat etc.Reply
I work in a call center. I'd use it to help myself achieve some quiet time without disconnecting from the world. Still online, but no ringing phone to drive me batty.Reply
I'm a fresh new intern and I'd use it to access our EMR (electronic medical record) on the go during rounds. It'd be a real easy way to pull up X-rays, lab results, etc. on the go rather than relying on the hospital's COWs (computer on wheels) because those things have been going for more than a year and their batteries are pretty much dead. Also they harbor various bacteria on the keyboard/mouse I'm sure.
Having a tablet to access our EMR (via Citrix Receiver) will make morning rounds more efficient, and also allow me to stay up to date w/ Google Reader (hence Anandtech!) and my Gmail. Please think of me!Reply
AS a college student I would like to say that I would use this tablet computer for note taking in class but everyone knows that college students trying to take notes on any form of technology in the classroom just doesn't work because we always find some way to distract ourselves so what I would actually use this tablet for would be to play angrybirds at a higher resolution than my droid and use it to read great books like Pride Prejudice and Zombies.Reply
i would use it to bum around my house and my friends' houses and look for a job since i'm a new graduate in a supposedly slowly-but-surely-rising economy. Plus my friend has one and it's awesome!Reply
Naturally I'd use the tablet for good ... right after the world domination!
Actually to preview photos after I snap them would be the main purpose. Mobile email. Having something I can take on a trip that is lighter than a laptop. Reply
I travel a lot for work so I would use it a lot at airports and on planes to catch up on shows and movies, haven't tried a tablet for reading books or other things, just smartphone which I don't enjoy browsing much due to the 4 inch screen, too small imo so the 10.1 inch tab would probably fit that bill. Better then pulling out the beast os a laptop cf-30 provided by my job. Thing is rugged for sure but way too bulky / thick / heavy and much dated internals.
Dang Anand, Just kind of made me make myself depressed there about not having a sweet tab to use during my tavels ;)Reply
This would be a great test bed for some distributed computing apps targeted at mobile devices for cancer research that I've been working on as a researcher at Vanderbilt University!! I'd probably watch movies on it too though ;)Reply
I recently constructed a Time Machine using some copper tubing and an old particle accelerator I had laying around. If I won this galaxy tab I would use it to pilot my space ship so that I could fly into space to meet the aliens and show them my Time Machine. Then I would kill them and go back in time to before I killed them so that I could kill them again.Reply
If I won a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, I would use it to surf the AnandTech web site, of course! Also, it's a nifty way to access all my monstrous-huge technical PDFs for work (IT solutions).Reply
I'd use it as my personal assistant at the local hackerspace. Then I wouldn't have to print of piles of data sheets while I work on projects. Instead I could just read them all from an awesome honeycomb tablet. All the while surfing the web for cool project ideas to work on.Reply
lol jk, probably the same reason as a lot of other people but I need something new to use for school, my labtop is dyingg D: thanks a bunch for the giveaways! :DReply
would have preferred the transformer for the battery/keyboard... but I had a chance to play around with one of these tabs at a friends house... and the lack of weight really took me by surprise.
Love to use this thing to play some dungeon defenders... we tried to lan it on our phones the other... but the small screens made it not very fun.Reply
I fly weekly for work and would use the Tab to read academic journal articles, review multi-media teaching and presentation materials, and keep up on e-mail.Reply
i would use this at work with the adults with special needs that i work with. We do a lot of cooking and this would be great for looking up recipes and taking photos.
I'm a computer science major and would love to use this for projects!! Please select me as the winner, it would be a great home for the galaxy tab.Reply
This Tab would become a device for seducing women in the subway. I would let them touch it, tell them stories of how the Tab was once a naive young child, loving and losing and loving again. They would ooh and aah, and share their own tales of woe. Then I would tell them I am dying in six months, but have never felt the erotic embrace of a living person. Reply
I need a Galaxy Tab to help me keep my sanity through those long agonizing moments in the waiting room, or in the car with my kids. I would also like to monitor my septic pump with it so I can be sure my basement won't flood the next time it rains.Reply
My household would love the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as a couch/coffee table tablet. Web browsing, photo album, light email... the obvious stuff.
I'd still attempt to use it as a laptop replacement and try to use it with an external keyboard. The virtual keyboard just seems to take up too much of the screen when used with Quickoffice.Reply
I would use it to get my wife from getting a overpriced ipad and for educational uses once my daughter ages some more......and of course I would need to play with it "a bit" and use it at school.Reply
I wish I could say I had a noble cause for this. Simply put, I want to know what it is like to surf the web with a tablet in one hand, an ice cold drink in the other, while gently swaying in a hammock.Reply
I've been a long time reader but never made an account. I would love to have this for school. I used a netbook until the keyboard literally broke and a fan burned out. Would love to switch to a tablet form factor.Reply
I would love a tab and am too poor to justify buying a tablet that I haven't been able to see yet as my friends went for the Xoom :-( which isn't all that great but the Samsung looks great but the lack of ports worries me. BUT I REALLY REALLY want it against better more cautious judgement. I would use this alot too as my laptop screen now has a crack in it from something, so yeah portability would be nice again as my desktop is not mobile.Reply
I have only been using a computer for twelve years and my needs have moved from W/P and mail to web surfing and youtube. A Honeycomb tablet looks to be all I need now.Reply
This would be a great complement to my desktop, which currently wears a few hats as home office PC, gaming rig, and media PC. Having a small, portable device like the Tab would be great for those times when I want to check email, look something up online quickly, chat with friends, view media and media-rich websites, etc. and can't use my main desktop PC. Hope I win!Reply
I would use the tablet as a gift for my wife. It would replace her ancient XP laptop that takes about 5 minutes to boot. It would also introduce her to the world of android as she doesn't get to use my phone very often. Two other family members have the ipad, so this would show them what a real tablet is like.Reply
I have been computing for only twelve years and my needs have changed from W/P and mail to web surfing and youtube. A tablet looks to fit my need rather than a laptop or desktop. Reply
I would use this tablet to work out a set of instructions to connect a bluetooth or USB android tablet to VHF radios and transmit location (gps) and status information. Much of this can be done using laptops or PCs but much of the software is rooted (no pun intended) in the DOS-Win98 worlds. The underlying comm capabilities are there but not the higher level integration for applications. 73Reply
my gf's dad is a big time apple fan. if i win, id use it to show him there are more to tablets then apple!!! Then id show it to all my friends at college because nothing says cool like new shoes and new tech!!!Reply
I would love to have the Galaxy Tab because I've never had a tablet. As far as what I'd use it for, that would be simple. Do ALL my blogging, posting, dl/ul, gaming, reading, etc. that I could. This would be AWESOME to see how this would compare to my laptop & desktop in terms of functionality and ease of use. Would be great to win but if not, this is still a great thing you're doing. Good luck to everyone.Reply
I would use this device to chart my little girl's lives through video, pictures, and notes. I would even use it to store their story books to facilitate bedtime story time.Reply
...instead of grabbing my barely-functioning HTC Hero to check my emails and bookmarks, use a large-screen dual-core Honeycomb tablet to do everything 10 times as fast.Reply
Please, I need to win this contest! I want desperately to be a robot, and I would duct tape this to my chest and display computery things upon it to appear much, much less human. Also, I would like to have it make beeping and blipping noises, so the naysayers would be relieved of any doubt.Reply
Seriously, I would use it for web viewing, play a few games here and there. Mostly just sit back and think of what I would do if I had one though. Yup that's pretty much it. Reply
Remote server administration, audio mixer control from any location in the auditorium (provided Yamaha ever makes an Android app for the PM5D), email, web...
I guess I'd think about letting my wife use it for school. Otherwise it'd be nice to have something more portable to surf the web with around the house.Reply
I have never won anything like lotteries, so here's one more try to see if I got some luck. If I win, I will use this tab to mess with home automation apps.Reply
I would love to win a new tablet! If I won I'd probably start developing a good RSS app, as most of the current RSS apps really dont meet my standards for how I want my news in the morning =PReply
I'd use it to help cover the ipad in my bag, so people don't see i have an ipad. Since noone wants to steal a galaxy tab. Except poor black people. They steal everything.Reply
I would use it to see if a non-Windows tablet can be realistically be used in a doctor's daily workflow. If so then I'd write a "best practices" paper on the topic. Reply
If I won I would use it for mobile entertainment and internet access. I would also love to start programming games and applications for android so this would be a big help.Reply
trying again to win! Id probably give it to my mother or if she didnt want it, id use it to present things in the field, such as photos, diagrams, that sort of stuff.Reply
I work for a non-profit organization and would use the galaxy tab for work. I do a lot of field work and often end up with tons of scraps of paper with notes on them. The tab would allow me to be more productive, thus providing better service to those my organization serves.Reply
I'd use this to browse the web and read email, My wife would use it for Facebook and my kid would use it to watch the same episode of sesame street off YouTube over and over again.Reply
With Netflix finally out for tablets, I'd get to use it for my traveling movie needs instead of the 3" screen on my phone, and "That's a good thing."Reply
I would use it to have better interaction with MRI's, xRays, and CT scans to better learn the body. And to supplement my nearly dead macbook pro. Reply

Angry birds, that is all. ReplyKrater47 - Saturday, July 30, 2011 - link
Available as a tool for anyone to use as they see fit. Reply

I might even write a few apps to use it for testing the security of networks. I would probably also use it, with the B&N app or the Kindle app to replace some of my textbooks. Good luck to all, but I hope you all lose. I wanna win. Replysilvertrance - Friday, July 29, 2011 - link

Eventually I'd like to mount a camera to the front of the vehicles and stream it to the tab.I'm also in the middle of building a Christmas light automation system (like those beer commercials you see with the Christmas light shows going in sync with the music). I'd love to write an app for a tablet that would let me control and build new song sequences on a honey comb tablet. Would be easier to carry around the yard then a laptop for sure!
Also a web surfing/video watching device I can use in bed while my wife is asleep would go a long ways =) Reply

After playing with a demo unit, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now my dream tablet especially now that Google is putting more development muscle behind Honeycomb. As a hardcore Apple fanboy for years, feeling the pull of a Droid tablet over the iPad is completely unexpected. I just recently purchased a Toshiba Thrive. I wasn't overly concerned about aesthetics as much as ports and functinoality. I know it's on the chunky side, but I'm pretty happy with it.But now that I have laid out cash, winning a Galaxy Tab would go to show that my purchase was badly timed.
Yet win or lose in less than 3 months time a superior tab with Tegra 3 and 64GB of storage will be commonplace for $199 purchasable at the local Walgreen's next to the pocket calculators and pencil sharpeners or Amazon will have some super duper self branded tab reeking of the same Kindle awesomeness that has yet to hit the android tablet segment.. When our 6 year old laptop died, my wife and I decided to buy a tablet to share between the two of us. She's an artist, and wanted something with a wacom digitizer, so we did some research and found a good deal on an Asus EP-121.This Windows 7 based Asus tablet has been a big hit with our whole family. My wife, and kids, have fallen in love with it. Unfortunately, whenever I go to use the tablet I can never seem to find it..
This galaxy tab would hopefully increase our tablet supply enough that I might actually be able to use one once in a while. Reply

Also they harbor various bacteria on the keyboard/mouse I'm sure.Having a tablet to access our EMR (via Citrix Receiver) will make morning rounds more efficient, and also allow me to stay up to date w/ Google Reader (hence Anandtech!) and my Gmail. Please think of me!

Thing is rugged for sure but way too bulky / thick / heavy and much dated internals.Dang Anand, Just kind of made me make myself depressed there about not having a sweet tab to use during my tavels ;) Reply

The virtual keyboard just seems to take up too much of the screen when used with Quickoffice. Reply

This would be a great complement to my desktop, which currently wears a few hats as home office PC, gaming rig, and media PC. I would use this tablet to work out a set of instructions to connect a bluetooth or USB android tablet to VHF radios and transmit location (gps) and status information. Much of this can be done using laptops or PCs but much of the software is rooted (no pun intended) in the DOS-Win98 worlds. The underlying comm capabilities are there but not the higher level integration for applications.73 Reply
