It would be my first tablet since the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is the first tablet is the first tablet that has come out that I really like. Getting a new HTC 3D Evo phone so it would be a nice complement to it I'm thinking since the Evo can act as a hotspot for it in places where there is no Wiifi. Reply

This is by far the coolest tablet, as it runs on water. We have one at work. When you plug in the USB, it fills with water and two ice cubes. As you use it, the water level slowly drains. When it reaches the bottom of the screen, you must refill it with water again. This is the coolest feature ever.

Actually it's just a cool background that shows the battery. Best thing about it.

Didn't win the first, but here goes for the second. I had a chance to look over and use many of the tablets on the market recently. I think the Asus is the best. I would like to see them improve it with a full blown SD card reader and some additional ports, but this is a great start.

Tablets go hand in hand with photography. I can't wait to see it evolve.

I'd be using this guy pretty much on the go, all the time. For Youtube; Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Last FM, Google Music, Spotify, and any other entertainment venues I can. I'm a media fan, and I travel as ell as spend a lot of time out of my home. Lugging around a laptop is even a pain; and Netbooks are just not practical for my needs. Reply
  • usama_ah - Sunday, July 17, 2011 - link

I'm a fresh new intern and I'd use it to access our EMR (electronic medical record) on the go during rounds. It'd be a real easy way to pull up X-rays, lab results, etc. on the go rather than relying on the hospital's COWs (computer on wheels) because those things have been going for more than a year and their batteries are pretty much dead. Also they harbor various bacteria on the keyboard/mouse I'm sure.

Having a tablet to access our EMR (via Citrix Receiver) will make morning rounds more efficient, and also allow me to stay up to date w/ Google Reader (hence Anandtech!) and my Gmail. Please think of me!

My entry...no, my plea shall be presented in the form of a very real story, a story destined to transcend mere pixels and punctuation and become reality.

    "A package arrived today. Hmmm...
A curious tilt of the head outwardly revealed my inner bewilderment. I hadn't ordered anything lately, had I? However, this was a package, so I did what any true resident of the modern age of digital store-fronts and weekly front-porch cardboard encounters would do, I opened it. I looked down on that packing material as it parted like the Red Sea and beheld the Poseidon's golden trident of all tablets. The black box within seemed to pulse with radiant energy before I realized it was simply the mind-altering, rhythmic flow of adrenaline with each heartbeat. In that moment an epiphany struck like Zeus's lightning, hard and burning. I knew what I had to do. Not moments later Newegg hands frantically handled and shipped a box containing a single Eee Pad docking station. This time there was no pause, only the chime of a doorbell, a short yet serious walk, and the tape gave way to blade. Docked and ready, silent my Transformer sat.
Words poured onto it's vibrant screen, yet there were no frivolous colors shining from its surface, only the black and white of meaning. It typed like no other tablet could type and in time my great weapon had been forged, one to bring an Empire to it's knees. A few hours spent making a bump key proved all to enjoyable and the adrenaline returned that very night at the printing press of my employ. Usually occupied by shadows at such nocturnal moments, it danced with sight and sound and the smell of acetone and ink...and for the first time since my life changing discovery, my flat lips curved into a crooked grin as I held the first copy of a powerful book.
A single digital copy and one hundred soldiers of paper and print were sent into their respective planes of existence, a few to Apple headquarters, 1 or 2 to numerous online tech-blogs, two of many examples. It spread like wildfire like I knew it would, especially among people of logic and reason, a simple message yet laced with potent truth, in short: the iPad is NOT, in any way, the best tablet anymore. Apple has fooled you all with matte, aluminium mirrors and the smoke of 1000 burning marketing experts. And just like that, the spell was broken.
Several years later that same screen that was once so serious displayed in brilliant splendor the pages of Anandtech, the place my great journey had started those few years ago. Reading its reviews and deliciously over-technical articles on the latest tech, my door was unceremoniously kicked in by an old, skeleton like man. L-shaped, chrome plated steel glinted in his hand and with the raise of his arm the tip of a .50 caliber round pointed menacingly, with crazed, shaky conviction. I'd seen this man before, yet in a less tattered pair of jeans and a black turtleneck. Mr. Jobs they'd called him. Who was he now but a forgotten memory to most? He screamed the question all downed, helpless men ask themselves after falling from the highest of high priestdoms, "Why?!" He had no more words on how to hold a phone, only that one, hoarse cry. As the pressure from the tip of that beautiful hand-cannon pressed my forehead back I answered without a hint of fear, "I brought them the truth. Nothing more. Plus...Anandtech needed a decent reason to give me a free Asus Eee Pad Transformer." Then I closed my eyes and closed my Eee Pad dock with one. small. click."

    So yeah...I'd like that Transformer.

I'd probably leave it in the living room (most of the time) for my entire household to use for e-mail, web browsing, VOIP, magazine/news apps.

I'm not the type of person that brings a non-pocketable computing device everywhere I go, but I'd probably take it out of the house occasionally. I don't think it's good to look at a back-lit display in bed.

Hmm, how would I use it (beyond playing angry birds)? I would use it for school. I read lots of journal articles in pdf format and a tablet is perfect for reading and editing them. A notebook is just not comfortable for seriously reading, the form factor just feels wrong. A tablet is perfect. Reply

    1. In the office as a makeshift mirror (super-reflective screen)
    2. In the bathroom as a toilet reader
    3. In the kitchen as a recipe displayer
    4. In the plane as a book reader
6: In the garage as a car manual
7: Finally, on the couch to browse AnandTech!

I would use the Eee Pad Transformer to begin a tech review site, directly competing with AnandTech. The powerful device would surely woo users away from AnandTech, and in a matter of days my user base (of extremely devout followers) would trump even Facebook. When I deem the followers great enough in number, I will begin brain washing them to spend all their time programming applications for Android. My Transformer will become ever so powerful, and eventually I will rule the known universe.

    Flawless plan.

Of course I would also use it for generic internet purposes, like reading/posting on forums, and generic web-browsing.

It would also be used for my son to watch movies in the car, currently I'm using my Archos Gen8 101IT for most of my mobile needs.

I'd like to use it for business travel. I often have to take one (or sometimes two) business laptops that I'm not supposed to use for personal use. This makes taking a personal laptop as my second (or third) laptop on the trip very cumbersome. If I had a Honeycomb tablet, I could easily fit it in my laptop bag as my personal machine without taking hardly any additional room.

When home, I could use this as my casual couch computer for quick e-mails and web surfing (to Anandtech of course).

I'm a homebrewer, and I've written some software for monitoring and charting temperatures, timers, and everything else in the process. It uses a few OneWire Temperature sensors, running out to an arduino controller board, and into a laptop.

I don't have a dedicated laptop for the job, but I've been thinking about getting a tablet instead. I'd drop a bluetooth shield on the arduino, and let the two communicate that way. It would be pretty slick.

So yeah, hope I get lucky! :)

I would also use this tablet as my main access point to the internet and for mobile computing needs.

I would then use this, in my free time, to delve into the many worlds of interactive entertainment.

Lastly, I would use this device to satisfy any and all of my video needs with downloaded and internet videos due to flash support.

So, what would I use this ASUS EEE Pad Transformer for?

Any and all of my portable and on the go computing needs.

The eeePad Transformer would be the perfect companion for my while traveling. Since my mother went into a nursing home in NY (my original "home" state), and me living now in TX, means that I travel every few months to go home and visit with her for a week. What a treat it would be, to be able to carry along a tablet like this, versus my clunky old 15" (heavy!!) laptop. And, for sure, with the cost of airfare these days, affording one of these is nothing less than a dream, any time in the forseeable future. Reply

All pun's aside, It would help me keep up with the Jones' and maybe get "Even (with the) Stevens"...

Seriously, I would love one and would be more efficient with it as I could use it to take notes in all my meetings without having to carry around my laptop. I could also finally lay my Asus Eee PC to rest, maybe at the bottom of the sea.

The facebook and now G+ apps would serve me very well in passing my time and keeping in touch with people. Plus I use a few android apps for my notes and day-to-day spending/accounts. I guess it'd be great for all these things. I really have a soft spot for ASUS laptops which I hope will be the same feeling I get when I use their tablets too. Reply

I would: keep up with newsgroups, chat with my friends, update google+ while reading my twitter feed, I would play really cool games like Worms HD, I would take pictures of my kids, my wife, my dog, my neighbors cat, my dog chasing my neighbors cat, a squirrel, I would record video of my dog chasing my neighbors cat while the squirrel laughed in the background, I would play words with friends, I would use swype to send a text, while talking on the phone via bluetooth, while following my gps to navigate me to a restaurant which has a groupon rate which I found with my phone, after I checked the feedback for the restaurant on Yelp, and in my free time, I would listen to Google Music, update my shared family calendar, and show off my Tegra 2 goodness to my friends.

And that is just the first day!

I make indie games in my spare time, so I'd probably use it to develop a cool game for Android tablets! My most tablet-friendly idea is a space trading game in a universe where the alien factions are analogues for Google, Microsoft and Apple. Wacky dialog, cute pixely graphics.

Aside from that, I'd buy the transformer's cool keyboard dock and try to do some programming on the thing! I don't think there's a working version of Emacs, but I might be able to get something like its keyboard shortcuts going with some hacking.

Mainly though, I'd use it for retro gaming. Sync a Playstation 3 controller via bluetooth, and you can play SNES, NES and Atari 2600 games. Plug in the keyboard dock, and you can play C64 games, DOS games via DOSBox, or use the touchscreen for classic adventure games with ScummVM. SWEET.

I would have two primary uses for a Transformer:
    1) To experiment with software development for the tablet interface to prototype various applications for improving the capabilities of users in the health care industry (current focus of my career).
    2) Tracking the great variety of craft beers I sample to properly keep track of the truly worthy beers from the "nice to haves". Admittedly it would not help in tracking the ones that are complete crap as those few are burned into my brain(I'm looking at you Cave Creek Chili beer!)

I'm a teacher and I'll be using it for school mostly. I have a friend who is whipping up an app for me to track various things on my students. I'll be using this to help track a reward system I'm developing based on the xbox/PSN achievements. I've got little cards that represent achievements and when a student meets the criteria for them they'll receive it. It'll have a score associated with it and they'll mark it on their score sheet. When they reach a certain score they'll be rewarded. I'll basically be using it every day in every class. Interestingly enough he transformer was the tablet I was looking to buy, because of the added usefulness of the dock. Reply

If we got an Asus Tablet we would use it to Skype with my Mother-In-Law in Poland. She loves to watch out 3 year old son, but it hard to get him to stay in one room to be near the computer. With the Tablet we could follow him around the house and if we go to any parks or beaches, we could use the Cablevision Optimum WiFi to video chat from those locations so she can see him outside of the home.
