    Hello, beautiful.
Ever since my first SSD, a 60 GB Vertex, I've been sold. They deserve to be a part of any computer's boot drive. But the biggest thing to overcome is $$$...Until $200 can reliably net you at least 120 GB, I don't think it'll be *that* mainstream. $100 per 64 GB I think is the magic price point that you only really get with rebates and such.

Since I have a low home computer budget, I've been considering 30-40GB SSDs for my OS/applications drive (plus a big, cheap hard drive for data). I worry about 30-40GB being enough.

This drive would far exceed my modest desires.

Currently i have a couple of Samsung F3's in RAID 0, and they're nice, but the performance still wouldn't compare much, especially for my PC's purposes. I do a lot of video and photo editing, as well as general everyday activities, but performance is what it's all about, and an SSD would help a ton. Reply

The last time I got an SSD (saved up a lot to buy a 128gb one) it was 'acquired' by my best friend (literally for free) when his laptop's HDD had a convenient crap-out right after the SSD was delivered. Haven't been able to extract any compensation from him yet :P

Now, here's a chance to get one of my own again :D 2 in 10000 entries.. those are some impossible odds lol.

    Good luck everyone.

I've already got an SSD, so maybe I could convince the wife that she needs one. Of course, the last time I upgraded her computer, I got nothing but grief: "Oh, my old stone knives and bear skins worked just fine. Why do I need anything that's still in production or for sale somewhere? My whole computer is ruined! See, this icon is now in the wrong spot and this color is off by 3 angstroms."

    Sigh.

I could certainly use this for my new Bulldozer system, having to shell out for DDR3 memory, a new Mobo and a new APU certainly stretches the wallet thin. Beside my old Apex 2 40GB SSD is starting to slow down. Time to wipe the drive and re-install Windows 7 64-bit Professional, but if I would one of these drives that would save me quite a bit of time as well as make my "VERY HAPPY". Reply

Sign me up. I've currently got 24 of the Vertex 3's in an array that I'm using to stress test an infiniband network. Definitely would love some of that performance at home.

Still running a 40GB Kingston SSD, barely fit Win7 ultimate on it. Haven't even flashed it with the Intel X-25 firmware for TRIM support. I won't need to do that when I win one of these Patriots will I?

Keep up the great work guys, this is the #1 tech site as far as I'm concerned.

Years ago I sat next to a guy on a plane who worked in the hard drive industry (WD I think) and he mentioned some new breakthroughs were coming in regards to solid-state technology. It's pretty neat to see the SSD market now which is more and more mainstream and affordable. A boost in HD performance was much needed and a bottleneck for performance for some time. Reply

I'm sure I am not alone to say that you have bitten me with the SSD bug.
My plan is to upgrade my machine (which is sorely lacking in the good storage department) this winter (saving up $$).
Currently I have a 300GB drive that is 4 years old.
The rest of my system is new - Sandybridge, Radion HD 6950 2GB, 8GB memory.
The plan is to buy one 120GB SSD, and a 1TB HD, and use the 120GB as a large boot drive that will also contain the current few games I'm playing.
(The kids' copy of SPORE - which is a huge HD hog will have to live on the slower 1TB HD).
Ok... enough of me... thanks for yet another cool opportunity!

My last notebook failed because it overheated and burnt up.

It would be sweet, sweet irony if I could put a Wildfire in my new rig (which, having learned my lesson, will be much better cooled).
