My wife n' kids keep using my Droid anytime I put it down.

Having a tablet would make them very happy... afterall, Angry Frogs (yes frogs, check it out!) on a 3.5" screen isn't as much fun compared to a tablet's larger screen!!!!!

I'd also use it for reading frequently visited websites (such as this one) before going to bed.

The Eee Pad will be great while waiting for planes, or even on planes. Less cumbersome than a traditional laptop, while still allow quick communication, catching up on news, checking seats, and the like.

I'd primarily use it to replace paper printed documents during document and design reviews, and a mobile task and status tracking interface.

I use an HP Envy15 for this now, but the device can be quite cumbersome and has no battery life which means I'm replugging everywhere I go.

Finally, it would replace the old iphone 2G woogie as the "Oh my god, the 2 year old is going crazy and we still have an hour to drive" device.

However if this isn't serious enough I'd use it to save the whales (whichever ones need to saved) and then bring about world peace :)

With the flat back both of these would lie fairly well on a coffee table and would wipe clean quite easily. The tempered glass surface might make a nice cutting board, but I'd worry about food getting stuck in the various parts. Alternatively, depending on how low a door is hung these would make excellent stops if inverted. Reply

When going on business travel, I often have to take 1 or 2 business laptops already. Since it is policy to keep personal use separate from business use, it would be nice to bring a small tablet like this for personal e-mail and web browsing so that I don't have to use the company laptops or lug another personal laptop. I should be able to easily fit this in my laptop bag. Reply

I've been wanting to try a tablet PC to see if it would make a good grad school replacement for my ancient laptop. My needs are pretty basic: web, email, video, and running lots of presentations. I'd also like to try a capacitive display with a stylus and see if it can replace good old pen and paper for taking notes. Unfortunately, even at $400 the cost is hard to justify, especially on a grad student stipend (and since spiral bound notebooks only cost $.99). I can't think of a better way to start than these. Fingers crossed! Reply

I have a desktop for many of my school needs (studying Computer Security), however I personally put a lot of my focus for papers and research into Android/smartphone security. While I have two smartphones to test security on; I do not have a tablet. Since I do not have the money to buy a tablet on my own, winning the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer would help with my scholastic studies. I would also be able to use it for note taking since it has the Polaris Office suite installed. Reply

    1. Listen to my audio library using subsonic, as well as watch my video collection using the same app.

    2. Use the table to read the bible using youversion.com's excellent bible app, and take notes at church and conferences with springpad. Current;y using my phone for this, but notetaking is not on such a small screen.

    3. Use it to stream some TV from my HDHomerun box into whichever room I want it. Woot!

I'd like to say that such a device would increase my productivity and make me a more intelligent and handsome person but I'm fairly certain that about 90% of its usage would come from surfing fine sites like this during my daily tech-porn/reading sprees with a side of Google facilitated mailing/conversing.
So, with the addition of a tablet to my life, I guess that my tech knowledge would be set to increase and my productivity via email/chat would skyrocket. Not sure that it would help with the handsome (unless I held it up in front of my face)...I made myself sad.

I have entered each one but haven't won (yet?). Maybe this will be the one. Either way, whoever wins is going to have a huge smile on their face.

You should ask people to post pics of themselves with the gear when they receive it. For giggles and stuff.

Anyway, here's to hoping my name gets picked from the hat.

Other sites seem to have no problem with this. It has been well over a year now and the above excuse seems a bit lame at this point, which is probably why it is no longer included in the rules!

For me, tablets are a way to read either websites like Anandtech (which I've been doing for 14 years or so) or other portals like yahoo, newspapers, etc. as well occasionally watch videos or listen to music or podcasts. Oh, and I guess there's always angry birds and good ol' backgammon. This is why I've been waiting for an inexpensive solution to justify itself so I can stop buying newspapers at $0.75 a day. A convertible like the eee transformer could end up being useful for a number of other things too like writing or work, so it's a good value add but price is going to be a factor when Android's forced use of cloud and network over direct connection of devices like printers and external drives is a pain to deal with. I'd love to have a Transformer tablet for the convenience of a couch computer. Often, I'll be watching tv and see an actor/actress and be like where did I see him/her before or hey, here's a trailer on this blurary/dvd for a movie. Maybe I should add it to my netflix queue. Or hey, there's a product I should look up or what's the weather like. There's a lot of spur of the moment type things where I don't watn the hassle or wait of booting up a pc or laptop. I want the convenience of instantly looking it up at the couch or the bedroom for that matter.

I am looking for this to be a quick and easy internet capable appliance for those times when I just don't want to meander over to the computer.

I'd be interested in indulging my love of classic gaming via DosBox with the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. A great advantage I see in this tablet over all the others is the docking accessory. I haven't purchased any tablets yet because I could not see any functions that one would add over a 5" screen smartphone and a desktop.

I think this one might convince me to change my mind if someone gets DOSBox to work for Honeycomb as the screen is just large enough for that and the Tegra 2 should be powerful enough for DOS games.

I have four children and they all use computers for education. Currently we only have 2 computers. This tablet would allow me to have at least one more of them to work on their Khan Academy every day.

My 10 and 11 year old children are working on complex multiplication (3-5 digit numbers) and pre-Algebra, while my 6 year old is doing long addition and subtraction and starting on single digit multiplication already, so this would be a huge boon for my family!

My wife and I can't afford a tablet quite yet, though we do desperately need one. Our laptop is on it's way out, our desktop is already offline and there's little room in the budget for replaceents.

So this would basically serve our most basic computing needs at home, perhaps even after we get the laptop and desktop fully back online. My wife in particular really only ever uses facebook, email and web. So a tablet is perfect for her needs especially.

    Thanks for considering my entry.

We used to have one computer for each member of the family. One got stolen, one wouldn't turn on at all, and my son wiped the keyboard of our laptop with a wet cloth, so now it behaves as if a key is permanently stuck in the down position - disconnecting the keyboard also disconnects the power button. Now, we're down to just two. Our children pretty much use both all the time. (In the old days, kids used to take over the phone.) So I need a (tablet) computer to check on e-mail, read AnandTech, etc. My eyes are too old for the tiny screen on my phone. Reply

Currently using a seven+ year old laptop. Only able to run Ubuntu and XP on it. If I won I'd use this for school mostly. Taking notes, recording lectures (voice & picture). Especially with my upcoming circuits class. I could then use this to design circuits while following along with the professor. Would make it a hell of a lot easier to be able to draw them out on a tablet rather than using my mouse.

I'm serious, I owned an LG Chocolate like 4 years ago for about a year. That's my expertise in the mobile market. I do, however, have a 5ghz 2700K with SLI at home, on an asus mobo I might add, but that's a little clunky to be carrying around.

Owning this sweet little piece of technology would literally transform my life. Can you say android development? Booya!!!

I would use my Honeycomb tablet to be my product to write my first tech review. From there I would go to reviewing and commenting on all things tech, eventually building a huge journalistic empire. During this rise to the top, I would buy AnandTech.com for a hefty sum (think 10 figures). After decades on top, I would decide to step down from the board and the company would fall apart due to poor management (nepotism never works). My fortune, heavily invested in company stocks, would evaporate . I would die penniless, sadly clutching the tablet that started the whole trip.

Or, I'd just show all my friends that there is indeed competition to Apples iPad.

Have wanted a tablet for a while:

    1. Use it to control XBMC HTPC.
    2. Set on the shelf above the treadmill to stream video to, since the only room the treadmill will fit in currently has no TV.
    3. Casual web browsing from the couch.
    4. E-Reader for my soon to be wife, as she has always wanted one, but can't warrant spending the money, and won't let me get one for her either...

I recently gave my only laptop to my dad. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer a couple months ago. He's too sick to work, so he spends the majority of his time at home. Giving him my laptop and introducing him to the internet just opened a whole new world to him. I still have my desktop to do my school works, but it will be nice to have a tablet for me to take it to school with me. I travel 4 hours a day in public transportation to school everyday. if I have a tablet, I could spend those 4 hours everyday on something productive like reading technical PDF books. With a tablet, I could have my whole collection of pdf books with me anytime. :) I do have the actual copies for most of the books, but they are just too heavy to carry to the campus everyday. I'm graduating with a CS degree soon. Maybe I could learn to make apps for android as a side job. And with that big screen, movies and games is a must. Haha. Reply

The tablet could be an integral tool to my success in med school. I could definitely use it for recording lectures, taking notes, taking pictures of cadavers and even using android apps to help me study and prepare me for the USMLE. This tablet will be an essential tool for me and will help me save thousands of lives in the near future.

One thing I hope to do in my future career is combine my career in medicine with my love for technology.

I've been sitting on the proverbial tablet fence for a long time. After reading your review of the Eee Transformer about two months ago I decided it was time to buy. Unfortunately no one had them in stock. Now...I'm ready but I'm conflicted between this "best bang for your buck" Asus model and the "everyone has one" Ipad 2. So, make my decision easier by just giving me one of yours...please!

I plan to use it to take notes in Evernote during business meetings and watch videos at 30K feet. Other than that...I may read a book or two...but only if its non-fiction.

The vast majority of the time, I think I'd leave it on the table between the television and couch for the whole household to use. Web browsing, news/magazine reading apps, VOIP, Google Music, ... probably lots of uses just on the couch.

Since I currently don't travel much, I don't think the keyboard attachment is worth the cost for me (but I'd look for sales and eBay auctions).

What would I use an Android tablet for? Off the top of my head, here are a few things I'd do if I won:

    The Usual:
Tether it to my Android phone and browse the web
Take notes in lectures (especially on the Transformer)
    Read ebooks
Play AngryBirds and see the whole scene
Watch live TV through my DishNetwork DVR
Use Google Sky Map effectively when stargazing

    Film Related:
Pull up scripts, shot lists, and storyboards while on set
Take behind the scenes videos on set and edit it right on the tablet
Use the tablet as a virtual slate and track good takes

    Photo Related:
Review my DSLR photos on a larger screen
Edit photos photos on the fly
    Post them online through tether

There's just so MUCH! So I hope I win. :)

It would enhance everything I do now. I'd really love to have one, but haven't had the funds (or need). The transformer has been on my short list of tablet/nettop for use when I finally go back to school to finish my EE degree.

I am a IT Architect and have been hesitant to jump into a tablet after the failure of the iPAD that I purchased. Apple and I have never been compatible and the quirks were too fun for me. An android tablet would be a lot of use to me. I have a HTC Incredible that I rooted and use for work, but the screen size is limited for productivity...Citrix is just not viable on that size (for instance). So, for me the tablet would do a lot of work related things (ActiveSync and productivity) and I am sure that my kids would love to play Fruit Ninja and what not on it.

    Take Care!

I've been slavering over the Eee Transformer since it was announced.

I could never justify a stand-alone tablet or netbook on a cost or utility basis, but I've been doing most of my recreational reading on a hand-held for years, starting with a Palm device in 1996...

Nearly all of my study materials are in e-Book formats or online these days. i-devices are too much of a walled garden for my taste, but have lovely displays.

When the Eee Transformer was released with the same display as the i-whatnots, I was half-convinced. With the keyboard/battery base, I can avoid carrying 7+ pounds of laptop & accessories everywhere, which completes the sale as far as I'm concerned.

Alas, the cost and the shortages! And the rapid product cycles, which mean that by the time I can afford one, the next version will be out!

I would like to be able to hang around on the couch for hours on end reading Anand's in depth articles on CPU design and trying to understand it all. Sometimes his articles are really complex and it would be great to be able to read them from the safety of a sofa. Why, you ask? Well, sometimes when I read them sitting at my desk I get a keyboard shaped bruise my forehead. It occurs when I slip suddenly into a coma while concentrating too hard on detailed articles by Anand. They start of so intriguing and with such interesting questions that I want to understand, but often end with my face smashed into the J K L key. I have actually ruined three perfectly good keyboards this way. Apparently no-one has thought to introduce a drool-proof model. It can be really painful, embarrassing and expensive to read Anandtech.
I am not saying I want him to tone it down. I love the challenge of keeping up and trying to understand it all. I just feel that I would be much more willing to delve into the challenges of chipset design as explained by Anand if I was laying on a sofa with a Transformer in hand rather than perched precariously on a chair over an oh-so sharp, forehead penetrating keyboard. It would be kind of like having a safety net.

Have mercy on me guys! Otherwise I may have to resort to wearing a helmet every time Anand writes an article!

I'm a grad student, and I read a lot of academic articles in PDF form. I don't own a tablet now, but I've tried reading PDFs on other people's iPads before and really liked the experience. You can read on the couch or wherever, and the experience is a lot better than sitting down at a desk and reading documents on a laptop. Plus, the charts & illustrations are reproduced much better than on an e-reader like the Kindle. Reply

My old Thinkpad finally gave out on me. Since I mainly used it for web browsing and time-wasting while away from my desktop machine, a new tablet seems like an attractive option.

    I'm in, thanks!

I would probably use the tablet as a laptop/ entertainment device while I keep a less portable desktop computer at home. It wouldn't be too hard using Google Docs to access all my documents from any device and the keyboard would allow me to actually type with speed and precision.

As a entertainment device, it has enough battery to be used for work and play all on a day's charge. It is definitely more portable than a notebook too. Video and audio are played back perfectly fine, and of course web browsing is perfectly normal compared to most notebooks. Not to mention peripheral support in the upcoming updates to Android, which would make it perfect for some PS1 and N64 emulators.

I would consider using one at work. Not entirely sure if its something I could use. I know the iPad has several apps that would be very useful to me, and I would imagine a Google based tablet would have equivalent apps or software as well. I guess that's what happens when you don't keep up with the tablets because quite honestly I find the price way out there for them. They are overpriced, underpowered computers and I don't believe for a second that mobility constitutes such a high price tag. Cost wise these manufacturers are making a HUGE PROFIT on a device that cost next to nothing to manufacture and distribute. It reminds me of the Cell Phone Industry, smart phones that cost $300-$600 without a contract is highway robbery, especially when the components in most of these phones cost pennies to manufacture. Add it all up and its blatantly obvious that these companies make a killing on something that when broken down has nothing inside it that is difficult to manufacture. I find it astonishing that most people who own a Smart Phone or Cell Phone seem to think the technology behind them is futuristic and highly complicated/sophisticated, when the truth is its not.

Oops looks like I went on a rant. Well if you have read this far, Congrats I am done! :-) Cheers

I'd use a Linux tablet in the context of my job as High Performance Computing manager. Currently we use laptops and smartphones for mobile troubleshooting, but a tablet would be a much better form factor than the cramped screen of virtual keyboard of a smartphone (don't get me wrong, we love them despite the limitations), and still be far lighter to tote than a laptop.
