V90...sounds like we're going to get up to 56 kbit/s down and 33.6 kbit/s up and thank goodness no one needs to worry about whether or not their ISP supports K56flex or X2 anymore! Reply

Lucky for me I never needed to worry about that. The phone system where I lived until 2008 never did (and still doesn't) support more than 28.8k. Reply

Barbed wire makes excellent phone lines! Well, until you need fancy dial-up interwebs, anyway. Reply

That was actually just 20 miles east of Sacramento. The telcos stopped improving the landlines in the area back in the '80s and have been just doing minimal maintenance ever since. Not dense enough for cable companies to give a hoot. So many people just use cell hot spots for internet these days. It's the fastest and most affordable broadband available. Reply

That stinks, but I'm in a somewhat similar situation living in just far enough from a major population center to limit broadband internet options. 12 mbit DSL is the one and only option and Century Link is disinterested in doing anything to expand service since there's almost no one living here. Sales of the standard cards must be falling, "Quick, release a speed increase and the suckers will lap it all up!"

I wish Intel didn't make the dumb decision to go with micro-SD slots on their latest 7th gen nucs. It makes no sense that the i3/i5/i7 version only supports microSD but the low end celeron Apollo Lake (NUC6CAYH ) nuc has full size SD slot.

microSD cards arent' even really mean to be swapped often, as it is a pain in most device designs

Speed improvements are nice and all, but is anyone actually limited by the current crop of cards with 90MB/s write to really care about this much?
Prices on the other hand certainly can use some improvement. Even the slow 20MB/s write cards are disproportionately expensive per GB compared to SSDs, and the premium charged for faster cards makes it much worse. SD cards lack many features of SSDs, like TRIM, NCQ, block remapping, wear-leveling, DRAM caches and so on, so why are they so much more expensive?

Depends on. Playing music from phone... no problem. Taking 4K video with camera... you need more speed... Reply

Yah, even more so with multi-angle/multi-camera (like front+back) or high res 360 cams. A 360 action cam footage is seriously very cool. Reply

Don't forget by Adata using 3d mlc nand inthese cards, there will be less available for SSDs and the price of SSD will increase even more. Reply

Meh, it's not a big problem since most SSDs sold these days are planar or 3D TLC. And stay tuned for QLC for even more savings passed directly to the consumer with only one more minor, but perfectly managable hit to endurance. </s> Reply
